What protocol to use for remote office users

Is there a protocol to use to setup remote office users instead of Pop and SMTP in order to have users access an internal Exchange 2000 server? Or do I need a VPN or dial-up into the Server to have all of the same features. I.e. Public Calendar sharing, Contacts etc.

What to use for remote office users for mail/calendar.

Is there a protocol that can be used instead of SMTP and POP to allow access over the internet to the Exchange server? Or is a VPN the way to go?

How do I enable Target Lines

I have the CCR menu pointing to extensions. For Example: Path 1 Ext. 221 However Ext. 221 is also a voicemail box for Path 1. My assumption is that if the path is not answered then the voicemail for that area would answer and take a message. My telephones only use 2 digits. Example: 21...
