Yes , Thats probably whats happening , in fact if you use Win Xps own inbuilt burner you can actually use the remaining portion of the CD R like a floppy and much quicker too.

Since you have access to another computer where you connected this drive as a slave , th solution could be to do the same thing again and once you are able to access this drive delete the Active Disk application and perhaps all other unnecessary applications , manually if necessary and then try...
I have installed 2 NICs on my computers using a CAt 5 crossover cable with RJ45 connectors ,while trying to set up a 2 computer LAN. I believe the crossover cable is also OK as are the cards.
