Try to weld the ends of lines and make it a close loop or U can slect the option to weld points while importing the file.

Try using 'Boolean' method from 'Compound Objects' to substract one from the other.
Deleting faces from editale mesh may sometime put you in trouble while redering. It may lead to rendering the open or broken faces.
