[COLOR=purple]The ultimate fix (a workaround anyway) is to simply load and unload the agents before each backup job. I use the cron utility to do this daily. My crontab (residing in \\<server name>\sys\etc) file contains the following:
# fields are:
# Min Hr Dat Mo Day Command
#
#recycle...
[COLOR=purple]I do now [grin]. I tracked down the issue relating it to anti-virus programs. The funny thing is, I'm sure I had that command in my autoexec.ncf file before I applied the patch. I read somewhere during my research today that some patches may re-enable client file caching...
[COLOR=purple]Hi Fatboy. Are your users working with Microsoft Office products? Novell TID 10065560 "Poor performance accessing Microsoft Office documents on a Novell server" explains a little. I'm only mentioning this because you wrote about the high utilization that occurs when...
[COLOR=purple]I applied Service Pack 6 to my Netware 5.1 servers this past weekend. The only problem at installation was the GroupWise POA rejecting the TCP/IP stack. I fixed that by putting TcpIp 5.81p on from Novell's download site.
Came to work Monday morning and the main file & print...
[COLOR=purple]I got a good backup last night using the QO05996 patch and the QO19341 patch on the ARCserve server and the QO19337 on the remote Netware server with Netware agent on it (I knew I would).
I put SP2 back on and am running a backup tonight using the Agent. Tomorrow I will stop &...
Hi LoYBoY. To expand on #2 (as you requested), the CA tech advised me to:
"Stop ARCserve ,unload modules nwtape.cdm and nwaspi.cdm .
(Refer link -> http://support.ca.com/techbases/as61/18022.html for more information).
Remark the modules in startup.ncf and then reboot the Novell server...
Hi LoYBoY. Well, it's nice to know I'm not alone with this issue. I don't fool around with incrementals anymore. ARCserve doesn't stick to that for very long - plays nicely for a few days, then falls back to full dumps before it's supposed to. I just do a full dump every night - what the...
[COLOR=purple]NWagent causes ARCserve to freeze since applying cumulative SP2 to ARCserve 7 and to the NWagent on Netware 5.11 SP5 servers. As soon as the ARCserve backup job accesses the server running NWagent, ARCserve simply stops and the backup job never finishes.
Has anyone else...
[COLOR=purple]I can only say that when I got that error (or a similar one), I called tech support for my HP DLT 718 Autochanger and they came out and performed a "wet cleaning". Disassembled the unit and cleaned parts with, um, alcohol, I think. It stopped making that grinding sound...
Hi Shaun. I also need to execute an NCF (to stop my postoffice) on a target server. My solution (the only one I could find) was to use the NWAgent on the target server. You have a pre/post option for the target server when you select to use the Agent in the ARCserve Manager.
Here's the URL for configuring Alerts in ARCserve 7 for Netware.....

Hope it helps.
I've been back & forth with the Novell client 4.83 and the patch. Without the patch I can't create folders from the root of any netware volume. With the patch, I can't manage (remove/recreate) print objects. Haven't noticed any relation to ArcServe, but I do know that this immediate restore...
Yes. Switching the order of the volumes in the session made a difference. I moved the SYS volume to the end of the session and could restore it with no problem. But, I could not restore the 1st volume of the session.
One other thing. When I create my backup job (been doing that a lot...
