Windows 2k Server at the main office = Root of Forest, 2 child domains running on Win2003 Servers at 2 branch offices, login options dialogue box gives all domains as a login option. Have an acct on the main office server that is a member of the Enterprise admin acct group but can't seem to use...
Take a look at Acronis True Image Server edition. Caution!! It's spendy!! and I have had some issues using it with 2003 server. Seems to work great with 2000 RAID configs though.

Hey Knutern,
Couple of things are coming to mind, you say the main site has two DC's ech holding the GC role. Shouldn't only one of those be the GC? Could it be that the server is trying to verify a RR that lives on your other DC? Are you seeing any kind of replication errors also? Could this be...
Hey Knut,
found this on EventID.net. I know you have tried some of this already but looks like there are a couple of repetitious steps that may be needed. Hope this helps.

From a newsgroup post: "If the DC and the clients are pointing only at the...
How many clients on your network? Feasible to blow the zone out and reset? what service is your server offering to the clients? (DNS, DHCP WINS etc etc)Do you have DNS entries for external web or mail servers? I'd say the key is to find out WHAT resource record this thing is looking for.(sorry...
Have you tried running the DCDIAG tool from the command line(may have to install the support tools before this cmd is available for you to use) that should give you a little more info on the specific area of the problem.

Hey G!
I have been reading and I have to admit I don't see a way to make this happen on a random basis (random teachers needing access)However, most of my customers are considerably smaller so this may be out of my league. I have passed it along to one of the forum experts (stevehewitt) and...
gschimenti,
Thank you, I had been thinking about the possibility of bringing up a temp server to synchronize with but wasn't sure how to get them resynched once the domain name changes. I hadn't even thought about the ADMT tool...will definitely get a Ghost of the server first (you only make...
Thanks Steve and M!!
Sometimes a little reassurance in knowing that so many other people have spent all-nighters correcting these kinds of messes is the best thing I take away from here!
So if I understand what you are saying Steve, is that even though I can back up the accts with a system...
alright i'm digging through my library, give me a little while, some of these damn books are bigger than my car!! my "inner geek" is driving me insane to figure out if this can be done ;}

Also seems to me I remember what a pain changing an exchange server name was in 5.5 but am I silly to hope that the 2000 version is easier?

The reason I was asking about equipment and the subnet scheme is that what was coming to mind was to set up a site to site VPN (box to box maybe)This would allow you to control access to the second domain. And maybe Dfs...I want to draw myself a picture before I open my mouth much more to make...
Hey Bub,
The DLT is a SCSI device? I have run into this before with bad SCSI controller and also SCSI cabling issues. Post back and let me know.

BigOrange,
If the remote machines will have highspeed internet access via satellite you might check out GoToMyPC. Do you want to connect to the remote machines just for administration purposes? or to connect them to data in your main network?
