hello,
it's a bit more complex in AIX, ie the priority itself and the fact that your thread has full time slices are somethings different.
For a developper, you need first to use the setpri() system call to set the priority ou your thread, and the thread_setsched()to choose a scheduling policy...
Don't know how it works in other country than france, but here i suggest the severity to be at least 2 if you ever want to be recontacted in a decent amount of time :)

A reboot is necessary too (well technically speaking the mirroring will take place as soon as the mirrorvg, the reboot is necessary to take in account the desactivation of the quorum checking, therefore you need to schedule a reboot).

hello,
unless I'm wrong somewhere, in the caracteristics of an user, you can select if he may login remotely (this does not affect only telnet but rsh and rlogin too),
(smitty users => change / sow caracteristics of a user)

hello,
are you sure that the GNU make is the one invoked during the compilation process ?

rpm -ivh to install it.
Most of the stuff go in...
hello,
I've got a few questions about the way DLPAR work, and unfortunately the various redbooks and whitepapers found are not very explicit, let me explain.
I assume that for a DLPAR operation to work, you need a public network connection between the HMC and the managed partition.
First...
hello,
yes, but from the few tests I made it's better from the HMC.
First, in the firmware of the machine (connect vie the ASMI interface), set "Firmware upgrade policy" to "Operating system".
Then in the properties of the physical server (from the HMC interface), specifiy as service...

hello,
like many other AIX commands, you define the version by the version of the fileset which brings the command.
'make' comes from the bos.adt.base archive (can be compared to a rpm archive), and you know the version of the archive / fileset with the 'lslpp' command, eg :
lslpp -L...
hello,
it's a matter a point of view : in the procmap output you have some shared components (there are for example several other processes on the system having the same components in their procmap output).

hello,
i've got a list of parameters to check after an AIX install :
- always check the network config :
- ping your IP address
- ping GW and DNS IP address
- ping your hostname
- ping a remote hostname
- recent machines have 2 ethernet port, so It could be a good idea to use the 2nd...
well I didn't see any "true" documentation on these functions, but it's pretty simple :
- connect with websm to "recent" system (I would say at least AIX 5.2ML2 or ML4)
- then select the machine on which you have put customized shell scrits
- in websm, go in "customized tools" entry
- then...
hello,
in recent versions you have the opportunity to add icons wich launch shell-scripts and redirect the output to the websm client who launched the script.

hello,
speaking of security, AIX is the only operating system to send several CR/LF before the banner and the login prompt appear. I know how to change the banner , but how to disable the CR/LF ??
