    Stroked text

I have to edit a job from someone who is not contactable. It's an Illustrator file showing how a set of Twitter users connect to one another - think the London Underground map with much more detail. The elements are: a blob for each user, a text box caption for each blob, and stroked paths...

    Palettes obscure opened file

When I open an existing file it fills the screen - all the way to the right, behind the palettes. I then have to hide the palettes, pull the bottom right corner of the window back, and then restore the palettes. I can't find anything about this behaviour in Preferences. Is there a way of...

    Batch cropping

They’ve decided to make our magazine’s back issues available to subscribers online, in the Flash page-turning format. This will involve me re-purposing each issue’s set of print-quality PDFs in order to output a SWF. The problem is that the trim marks vary in position: the files we made are all...

    Outdents to the right

I'm setting a book which is an A-Z of codes for occupations. Each entry consists of the job title and a two-digit code, and some also have a brief description. The code is set flush right, on the same line as the job title where there is no description or after the description if there is one...

    Resolution "lower than 300 ppi"

Thanks, but my point was that the alert is meaningless or untrue. Having flagged up an image as under 300dpi, it measures it at over 300dpi.

    Resolution "lower than 300 ppi"

In Acrobat 9 the preflight profile Magazine Ads has flagged up the alert in the attached screenshot. The warning "Resolution of color and gray scale images is lower than 300 pixels per inch" turns out to include the match "Color image... 300.0123 ppi". What is happening?

    "Analyze and fix" introduces errors

Thank you - that works perfectly. I don't understand though why that method works but the intuitive one (press the Fix button) doesn't.

    "Analyze and fix" introduces errors

Thanks, but this brings up the message "An unexpected error has occurred during the Fixup process" - which is the message Acrobat 8 used to produce when I attempted to Analyze and Fix. I have tried editing the profile in all the permutations I can think of, and they all generate the same message.

"Use css instead of html tags"

In CS4 this option has disappeared from Preferences. Unchecking it used to allow you to construct email newsletters without CSS. Is there no workround now?

    "Analyze and fix" introduces errors

I process ads for a magazine. We received an ad supplied as a PDF which had been constructed in FreeHand MX on a Mac and exported to PDF. Using Acrobat 9 Pro for the first time I used “Analyze and fix” (previously Acrobat 8 flagged up errors in preflighting without correcting them). The effect...

CS4: content display moves when window resizes

It's not mazimised. This happens whatever size the window.

CS4: content display moves when window resizes

I have just upgraded to InDesign CS4 and cannot see where in the Preferences or elsewhere I can alter this behaviour. Previously when a window was resized its content stayed where it was. Now it moves relative to the window but without resizing. For example I am looking at an InDesign window...

    Printing thumbnails

Yes: Print > Setup > Thumbnails > 3x3 Per Page – results in page numbers and drop shadows. Someone else asked this question on the Adobe site months ago but there was no response: http://livedocs.adobe.com/en_US/InDesign/5.0/help.html?content=WSa285fff53dea4f8617383751001ea8cb3f-7080.html

    Printing thumbnails

When printing thumbnails is there a way of getting rid of the drop shadow and page numbers that automatically appear?

    Swatch metadata in Bridge

I am placing a PDF as an image in an InDesign CS3 document. I want to match a colour in the PDF. Bridge's metadata panel tells me that the swatch I want does not have its CMYK values as part of its name (it's called "Amends"). Is there any way of finding out the CMYK values through the metadata...
