Including extra large fields in databases really doesn't make sense. EVERY record will consume realestate. If you need really large character fields for SOME records, simply create another SEPARATE dbf with stru of field->key, n,4,0.. and field->text, C, 500 <or whatever>, & index on key Simply...- LesRedding

Data collection through serial port
Try obtaining "TELEPATHY" library from Extrasensory Software for excellent serial comms, or "FAST" lib for basic. One word of warning, CHECK THE SERIAL CABLE TO SEE WHETHER IHE SEND/RECEIVE LINES ARE CONNECTED DIRECT OR CROSSED OVER. This little trap cost me a 2,000 Km round...- LesRedding
