Has anyone tried to backup/restore the reporting repository before? Is this just a matter of copying all the BO tables in the database? Any suggestion is appreciated.

LouLu, Did you use the copy of universe in development and Import to production? Just migrate the report to production without the universe will create 'obsolete objects'. You need to migrate the universe as well. Hope it helps Legend8
