No, direct login as root is not disabled. I can remotely login as root using conventional methods. I just can't access Fast Connect file shares after i've mapped a username to root. Thanks,

Thanks stiddy. Adding the global group worked to access all the other applications I installed, but it's still having problems w/ Office XP programs. Whenever I try to open an excel file I get an invalid path or missing file error. Any suggestions other than re-installing Office?
