Problem solved. User error in a big way. Seems that when the tech was showing me what to do, there wasn't enough emphasis on the fact he was using the configuration password. So, all my attempts to look, change, etc. were done using the administration password. Big difference in the menu options...
Under telco features, I have a prompt labelled
1st Display, but I am unable to find a prompt for Caller ID. I'm using v6.1, but if there are additional digits after the 1, I haven't figured out how to retrieve them yet.
oddly enough, I did see the Caller ID prompt once, but as I was looking...
they ring, but will not display the incoming caller id until you either answer the phone, or enter the feature sequence to display the caller id. We'd like it to display before we pick up.
Its all on a PRI. No copper coming into the PBX from the outside.
its very weird. I have one phone that correctly displays incoming caller id, and all the other phones appear to be configured the same way, at least when I look at the telco features setttings. If there is another setting...
We have the DID interface in the system and a bank of DID numbers plus about 9 other numbers we ported from previous telco, and it is a PRI. I watched the technician install it, and do the initial programming, install the keycode(s), etc. The Tech seems stumped by this issue as well.

We just upgraded our Norstar MICS to 6.1, with PRI channel and DID. Its very weird, phones that only have 1 incoming line show the incoming caller id, while phones that have multiple lines routed via DNIS do not.
I've got various bits of documenation, but coming from a Teltronics/SRX system...
