For a purchase order, where you will be entering details in a table, use Excel. I find it a lot easier to protect different parts of a form in Excel than in Word. Easier to use Excel formulae to calculate your discounts, totals & tax as well.
we use odbc to link out office apps on PCs to our order processing suite on an IBM Rs6000. Everything worked fine until we upgraded to Office 2003. Now the pivot tables we use in Excel give the following error message:

Possible cause is that the form is greater than NT thinks the printer can use. Try a smaller size form & see if that appears in the list.
Could be you need to install a service pack - see article no Q157848 on the microsoft technet website.

I don't think this is possible. But you could use winzip or similar compression utility to compress to a network drive. You'ld need to write a bit of vbs to get it to work unattended, but if it's just data stuff it should be fine.
