I also ran into this same issue shortly after bringing up a 2003 server and AD. I researched for weeks, finally swapped to a totally different switch coming off the server. All network latency, disconnects, etc. resolved. Just a thought.
I used the same thread last week that linney suggested "Problems with Xp Validation: your copy is invalid" - this worked immediately for my customer's computer (remember to use system32 not system23 in the script )
I've seen 4-5 computers act slow like this in the last 2 weeks - all have been related to Windowsupdate issues where MS switches the update tool from: http://update.microsoft.com/windowsupdate/
to: http://update.microsoft.com/microsoftupdate/ -
then tries to patch/update Office apps along...
You might also do a Winsock fix/repair - not being able to pick up an IP address or even have a static Ip address be recognized can be an indicator that this needs to be done.
http://www.majorgeeks.com/download4372.html - this is one of the many locations you can download the utility.
I should have mentioned that in my case, running chkdsk /r had to be done from the xp cd (d: drive in this case) - it would not run from c: as no command would run at the c: prompt.
just had the same exact issue on a friend's machine last week. Booted to the windows repair commandline using xp cd, then did chkdsk /r - after reboot, all was well.

You might also check Tcp/ip properties - Advanced - Options -
Tcp/Ip filtering - Properties -
especially after doing a Winsock fix, the three boxes are defaulted to 'Permit Only' (need to be changed to 'Permit All' ) and can cause the same problem.
thanks for the suggestion. I've sent it on to the programmer for this software, will find out what he thinks on making a change like this, then rolling out to the clients. May have to wait until next version rollout for it if he has to make other changes also.
thanks again,

Hello all,
I get a lot of word docs from legal firms, and what they do is Remove all Tracked Change information before they send the document to me, the problem is the formatting from track changes stays "Blue Double Underline for inserts" "Red Line Strike Through for deletes"
I can't...
I am having same problem as you. NT Domain, with some W2K servers on the LAN. Outsourcing computers that try to come into the LAN via the VPN router connect ok, but cannot really logon to the domain in any way. The remote pc's are WinXP Pro. I am having them test the basics:
1- Ping test...
Upgraded Exchange 5.5 Standard to 5.5 Enterprise - now outbound email size limited to approximately 4mb., even though the restrictions are either higher, or wide open.
Any help appreciated.
