Scandisk and Defrag not working
Are you running Windows? Just a question. Make sure all programs in the background are shut down. Make sure all screen savers are shut down. If anything kicks off during the scandisk, it will think the contents of the hard drive has changed and it will start over. Before I knew what I was...- kraut

Take it one step at a time. Remove the sound card and network card (always power down and unplug the computer before you open it ... trust me ). The following pertains only to plug&pray cards. Hard Drive Fdisk/format/scandisk problems "Help, please"
In my experience, format is the second step. To insure you have a really clean drive, fdisk and blow away all partitions existing.
