I don't think there is a Corel issue, because PDF works in CS2 suite. Corel PDF creates drop shadow as a rectangle with pattern fill. CS2 suite places this fill in correct position, but CS3 shifts it.

I created PDF from COREL X3. Acrobat 7 opens it OK, also placing in Indesign CS2, but shadows are distorted in Acrobat 8 and indesign CS3. All updates applied.
Can somebody try it?
