I have a user who when trying to open ascii/text files in excel gets a message that states the file is either read only or that they do not have rights to view the file. They can however browse to this file and it opens just fine with notepad or any other text editor. When I try to open these...
If you are using 98 or W2K go to My Computer or Explorer and change the view to be the way you want it. Click on tools/folder options from the menubar. Click on the view tab and make the changes that you would like by selecting/deselecting the radio buttons. When you have finished making your...

I guess I forgot to elaborate on my response. I was referring to doing what I had mentioned from the server itself, not the workstation(s). I still don't know if this was an appropriate answer though.
I guess maybe I am not understanding the question totally. If I am not mistaken I think you would remove these profiles the same way you would any profile. Right click on My Computer, go to the used profiles tab, select their profiles and remove. Ths sounds to easy that's why I said I may not...
I am not sure but I think the file you are looking for is the Ntuser.dat file located underneath your profile. Anytime a user amkes specific cahnges to their desktops (ie - wallpapaer, screensavers, etc...) it is stored for them indiviually in their ntuser.dat file. Hope this helps.
The first thing I guess that needs to be known...is can this user log onto the metaframe server from another client? If s/he can then I would ask if you can ping the server from the users 98 box (using whatever method you are trying to make the connection with - IP address or DNS name). Just a...
I think what you need to do is create an account on the 2000 box with the same username and password that you log onto the 98 box with. Assign this user rights to the shares you are talking about and see if that works. Another alternative (I don't recommend) is enabling the guest account on the...
If I were you I would disable the computer browser service on your 2000 woprkstation and let the 98 systems take care of being the master browser. Your 2000 system is at the top of the OS ladder and therefore would like to always be the master browser for this workgroup. There is no need ot be...
We sysprep all of our systems before creating images for systems with approximately the same hardware (HDD's might be bigger, more memory etc... but as far as the HAL and the MassStorage devices, they are all the same). We use the -quiet switch and a switch called -defeat. I know what the -quiet...
Dom,
Now that we've established you have used the unc32.exe and still had no luck. After using this method of getting rid of the Novell client, did you try running the ws2bakup.bat file in both windows and then again in DOS mode? If so, what errors (if different that what you posted earlier)...
Dpellegrini,
You didn't mention this in your post. When you say you uninstalled all networking components, are you including removing the Novell Client also? If so, how did you do this? You should run the Unc32.exe that resides in the ADMIN folder of the client you unzipped and used. This is...
OK When you run the ws2bakup.bat from the wsbakup directory under windows it can't write over e few files because they are in use so you have to abort to get around these. After the batch ffile finished though you need to restart in DOS mode and re-run the wsbakup.bat file to overwrite the files...

Is this problem with NT workstation or 95 workstations? I know it sounds like a stupid question seeing as you posted it here in the NT forum but, I have ran into this problem alot in 95 workstations and the Novell Client32 install. I have never had this happen to us using NT...
