For starters, disable fast shutdown in system configuration utility. Also, check for a bad (messed up, corrupt, etc.) exit sound. If not then go to MOFT's site and check their fifty ways to leave your windows...<br>Bill
Perhaps you have too many programs running in the background? Several machines at work had the same problem and I shut everything but systray and explorer down in the system configuration utility and it stopped. Ah reckon that there were just so many things trying to shut down that the machine...
Is the machine networked? If so, remove the networking adapters one at a time to see which one might be causing the problem. Happened to me twice at work on two different machines.
