i'm actually using vfp 7 to attempt to modify a vfp 5 database (sorry for the confusion -- i just saw a question similar to mine and was trying to piggyback on it)
how do i turn OFF database events in vfp7? i've been trying to figure that out all day ... i "modify database" and uncheck "set events on", but i still can't access it again with the older vfp without rebuilding the dbc ...
any ideas?
thanks for the help.
and if it comes down to a recurring issue of compatibility, should i try to find an old copy of foxpro 6 (thereby eliminating the problem) ??? anyone with a copy to sell?
okay, i've checked the database properties and see that "set events on" is NOT checked ... is that what you mean? if so, doesn't that mean i've not used database events? then do i have yet another problem instead?
thanks again to everyone.

well, as i said in my initial email, i'm dutifully working my way through the tutorial at msdn.microsoft.com/vfoxpro/technical/tutorial ... so please pardon my ignorance ... i did not explicitly use that option ... would it be the default? how can i do otherwise?
again, forgive my ignorance...
well, perhaps i spoke too soon ... i tried it a couple more times and failed ... here is the error message:

well, you solved my problem without even knowing it :-)
i just tried it again and it works fine ... i have NO idea why it gave that error the first time, but the second it behaved exactly right .... i suppose i should just accept my good fate, but i AM still wondering why it didn't...
greetings.
i've inherited an application built using vfp 5, and i'm attempting to write my own vfp 7 applications to access the same data.
using the tutorial located at msdn.microsoft.com/vfoxpro/technical/tutorial, i've succeed in accessing and modifying the data (i simply changed the data in...
well, i THOUGHT it was going to work that way ... but when i saved the form, i got a "file in use ... could not create index" message ...
what do you experts think?
and thanks to all of you for your help this afternoon.

i guess my problem is that i'm trying to create a form using the wizards, and therefore have no way(?) of doing what you suggest ... is there a way to specify NOUPDATE while defining the form in a wizard?
if not, is there a "getting started" tutorial that would help me?
once again, i...
Greetings ...
I apologize for the elementary nature of this question, but I'm trying to create a form to access a pre-existing Visual Foxpro database which is currently in use by 50 or so users ... I get an "access denied" message which, I assume from my other experimentation, I would...
