    Diagnosing Ethernet errors

THANKS. I haven't looked at Fluke's offering in awhile, so this info is helpful. Is the Optiview fully portable or is it something you deploy, like Distributed Sniffer? Also, does it incorporate Ethernet diagnosis? Thanks

    Diagnosing Ethernet errors

Hi all, Can Sniffer diagnose layer 1 & 2 problems like errors due to CRC, alignment, fragments (runts), etc.? I have an Extreme Networks switch that gives me statistics on these errors and I'd like to validate these errors via Sniffer or some other tool. End result is I'd like to know if the...

    Distributed Sniffer versus other products

Anybody here using Distributed Sniffer and compared it to other products? We're ready to eval a solution for remote packet capturing and analysis. I wanted to see if anyone knew the pros and cons. Thanks in advance, kc

    Sniffing an Ethernet Switch

I had that problem with the Linksys Hub (see thread23-403072). Buyer beware: Linksys hubs are NOT true hubs. I ended up getting a Netgear DS104 hub per the recommendation of the experts here and have not been disappointed. - kc

iPlanet Web Server and Servlet Error Output

Hi, Does anyone know how to show Standard Output and Standard Error Output for servlets in Solaris 8 and iPlanet WS 6.0 SP4? I've looked through Sun's docs and they mention in the Programmer's Guide to Servlets that: "When iPlanet Web Server is started in the background, which it is by...

Thanks I've read through it. But I'd like to know how the alarms are triggered and what criteria is set for halting the system. -kc

    Lights Out Management

More importantly, does anyone know how the LOM alarms are triggered? I have a hardcopy of the docs now, but they only mention that the alarms "are associated with no specific conditions but are available to be set by your own processes." from p.9-5 of the Sun Fire/Netra V120 User's...

    Lights Out Management

Hi all, Can someone point me to some docs, preferably a command reference, on LOM (Lights Out Management)? Thus far, I've been unable to locate a reference out there. I have a Sun Fire V120 that seems to be shutting itself down, and I'm trying to track down the problem. Thanks Jericho

    Sniffer and portable minihubs

Chris, I have the same pains, which is why I'm going with the Netgear. I have wasted too much time twiddling with settings on my laptop, thinking the fault was with my hardware. Just goes to show, a hub isn't necessarily a hub when it comes to Marketing folks and their perception of the...

    Sniffer and portable minihubs

Thanks a lot guys. I will return this Linksys and get the Netgear. Just for giggles, I had an interesting conversation with Linksys Tech Support regarding this. After a lengthy discussion with the support rep (and much hemming and hawing about "are all the PCs powered on, and the Link...

    Sniffer and portable minihubs

Hi all, Hopefully someone can make sense of this. I was attempting to sniff a network issue on my LAN. I have a Linksys NH1005V2 (http://networkeverywhere.com/products/nh1005.asp) that I wanted to use so I could plug my laptop running Sniffer, in-line with the PC workstation that I wanted to...

Help with DHCP helper address and NT domain login

OK, I got this info back from Cisco. My ip helper-address definition is fine. Evidently there's a problem with encapsulation for DHCP requests when forwarding it over the Serial Frame link. (That's what I was seeing in my debugs.) For some reason, the packets were not being encapsulated and...

Thanks NewbieGirl, but I already digested that one. It's one of my top bookmarks!

Help with DHCP helper address and NT domain login

So you are saying I should put the same 'ip helper-address' command (with same IP) on the router that the DHCP server is connected to?
