We ran the migration at my company about a month ago and our scenario was pretty much the same as yours. The easiest thing to do is follow the instructions from Microsoft and use the exchange tools to guide you through. The places where you will hit bumps are with custom attributes and public...
Once you move the mailbox from the 5.5 server to 2K3 you either have to delete the mailbox off of the 5.5 server or rename. AD registers the move and points it to the 2K3 server. But you still have ADC running and it's fighting with AD saying that it's not on the 2K3 server....it's on the 5.5...
I have SMS 2K3 installed in our test environment and i'm having trouble pushing the client to my desktops in my lab. I have configured everything and the client will push but it doesn't install the Remote tools and it doesn't show the client as being installed in the collection. I have...
Do you still have her mailbox active on Exchange 5.5? If you do that's your problem. You need to either delete or rename the mailbox on the old Exchange server and that should fix it.
You should be able to sync just to your site. Check and make sure that you have the correct domain controller selected in the ADC configuration. If you used the ADC Tools try and make the connections manually. You're gonna run into a problem upgrading to Exc2K3 if you don't have schema master...
The only way that you can keep the copy on there is to use the migration wizard instead of moving it in the exchange tasks. The migration wizard will make a copy of it and once you've verified that it's okay you go back and delete the mailbox on EXC5.5 or just rename it. I've done it on 625...
If you guys run into this I figured it out. Someone had put an instance of Exchange 2000 and it registered in AD. I had to do a setup /removeorg on 2003 and then it had the right service account.
The biggest reason is that when you're migrating or moving the mailbox to Exc2K3 then Exc5.5 can't be trying to replicate the mailbox data to AD at the same time. In other words it locks the database to where you can't modify it. I found this out in a Q article....i'll post it here when I get...
You need to stop the ADC before you either migrate or move the mailboxes. Exc5.5 can't coexist and move the mailboxes at the same time. So stop the service and give it time to finish the replication then try doing the move. If you don't move all of the mailboxes at once then be sure to rename...
You can do a migration. There are plenty of tools for this or you can use the tools that come with Exchange 2003. Biggest hitch with it though is that you'll need new hardware or different hardware to do this. You can setup Exc2K3 on the new hardware in a different ORG then migrate your data...
I'm migrating from Exc 5.5 to 2K3. During the install for 2K3 it asks for my exchange 5.5 system account and it has the username already entered and greyed out to where I can't change it. This username is not my existing 5.5 service account but I can't change it. Any idea where this info is...
