Glad I found your post. I have having this problem with a linked Excel sheet and thought I was going crazy. But in my case, I can't delete the formatting as it is a linked table. Good old Microsoft does it again!

Think I found confirmation <http://www.tek-tips.com/viewthread.cfm?qid=1426926> I can't change the format as it is a linked Excel sheet. So far I haven't found an Excel format that would allow it to carry over to Access to remove the problem.
