    CD Rom Missing

Well, I'm ready to take Ben's advice and just sledgehammer the whole thing! I ended up removing any reference to Upper and Lower limit and all it did was just cause my whole system to hang on log in and my Keyboard/Mouse no longer works. Time to do a restore!!!

    CD Rom Missing

Well, this is interesting, I have 24 instances of HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318} and they don't contain the same information. Any ideas? Thanks.

    CD Rom Missing

Here's a weird one ... whenever I log into XP, my CD Rom is missing. However, as soon as I try to add new hardware, it shows up. I've confirmed that all cables are in good working order and that the jumpers are all set properly. I've tried updating the drivers but they are all okay. Any...

    Can't link table

Sorry (again) ... the table name is hd_incident and the field name is ds_order_dt ... there's actually no period in the field name but, for some reason, Access just won't accept it. It's really frustrating!!!

    Can't link table

Whenever I try to link a specific table from a SQL dB into Access, I receive this error: __________ is not a valid name. Make sure that it does not include invalid characters or punctuation and that it is not too long. The field that is bombing does not contain any punctuation and was...

    Dead Keyboard Port?

I just installed a new (used) motherboard. Everything powered up fine but, for some reason, the keyboard port is not working. I've tried different keyboards (including one that works fine on my roommate's PC) but nothing seems to work. Any ideas on what I can try? If the port is dead, is...

    Random Reboot Problem

Thanks ... you nailed it. I took a look at the motherboard and, fortunately, caught it as only two or three were minorly leaking. Turns out the manufacturer has a pretty bad reputation so I'm going to try to replace all 12 before they cause any more problems.

    Random Reboot Problem

Help! I'm running XP Pro with SP2 and, ever since I installed SP2, I get these random sudden reboots. There is nothing listed in any event log and I can't find any other log files that list what might be wrong. I have completely rebuilt XP (including a full format of the drive), run scandisk...

    EXPORT DATA TO EXCEL

Okay ... I realize it's six months later but I just had the same problem and here's what I found: According to MS Article No. 201589, Access is set up to be compatible with Excel 5.0's limitation of 16,384 rows. Here's the workaround: when exporting the query results, do NOT select the "Save...

    Rule to modify subject line?

I am using a rule that forwards any outgoing message to another e-mail account and it works fine. However, I'd like to add in a twist ... whenever the message is sent, I need to have the subject line modified to include "\complete" at the end. Is there any way to do this? I see something for...

How do I create a service?

Here's the problem: there is a strange permission issue and we are unable to get services installed when running the installation on one particular piece of software (other applications are able to install services). What we'd like to do is to just install the services individually ourselves...

    Permissions / Service Installation Problem

Well, there are no errors to speak of in the Event Log. But, the error is an InstallShield error message on the install. It seems to be a permissions issue as I can still install anything that does not try to create a service. It's weird! Thanks for your help.

    Permissions / Service Installation Problem

Thanks for the tip. I gave it a try and it still failed. I'm just completely thrown by this one. Thanks for your help ... I just have to keep plugging along to see if I can figure it out.
