Thanks Annihilannic..I think thats the problem.I am able to restore the files of /ksfc1 & /ksfc2 with relative path names and not for /etc directory. I taken backup with tar -cvf /dev/rmt/0 -C /etc ./ksfc1 ./ksfc2 Anyway thanks for the information given. Regards Joe
