Check the CA Support Website, I am sure I saw a published solution that addresses backups taking longer than normal, not sure if it applied to MS Exchange though.

If you have a current maintenance contract and your software is licensed, then you should be able to get the ARCserve upgrade for free. I was using Brightstor Enterprise Backup and I was able to upgrade for free.... Johnb546
