I have a 7044-170. I used to be able to reach my SMS-menu in the graphical display console.
Lately I can't reach SMS. When I bootup, the console will just display a blank screen (black color) as oppose to the white background with the icon display sequence.

I'm using Solaris and I need to set the TIMEOUT variable in bourne shell (/sbin/sh). I've read somewhere and it's supposed to be TIMEOUT=5;export TIMEOUT
but it doesn't work.
TMOUT on ksh works perfectly.
Does anyone know how to set timeout in bourne shell?

I've used Solaris 6,7 & 8 and I use ufsdump and ufsrestore for the normal ufs type filesystem.
When a disk failure occur, u have to boot from the CD and restore filesystem by filesystem. Its pretty tedious but it works. I'm not aware of any tools similar to Ignite-UX for Solaris. Maybe...

To check each hard disk size, do a "lspv hdisk?" where ? = 0,1,2...
To check memory, do a "lsattr -E -l mem?" where ?=0 (usually)
