Is it possible to place a video feed into a Java Swing App?
The video 'screen' would only take up part of the screen, with buttons and menus etc around it. There is no need to nessecarily interact with the video (althought the option to overlay text would be nice), but I do need to display it...
Define "performance" as you see/think it is.
If you define it as "better stability" then I agree with you, both a stronger PSU and a better heatsink will increase your "performance"/stability, but ONLY if you were experiancing stability problems before hand.
A hot CPU does not run...
Lets say I had a P3 that ran at 800mhz and it was powered by a 250W PSU.
That CPU runs at 800 mhz, now I attach a 550W PSU to the computer and funnily enough that CPU still only runs at 800 mhz that is its rated speed, that is the speed it will run at regardless what power you give it, it has...
I would not feel happy with a 200W for a Pentium 2.4, I agree that 300W is a much safer, trouble free alternative.
But more importantly like paparazi said, it doesn't matter if there are 500W Antec dual fan PSUs, if they are failing frequently then they should be replaced, end of story.
and I...
In short -
When you install XP one of the install options is to change the layout of your HD, ie you can delete all current partitions, create new partitions etc AS PART OF THE XP INSTALLATION.
The way I normally do it is to create a XP partition out of part of my HD during installation and...
1) Have a look at www.blackviper.com and check out this suggestions for what XP services should be running.
2) Defiantely turn off and disable the Indexing service (again the above website will show you how -with pictures even :) )
3) You are running Zonealarm and AVG which is good. Download...
I will second what paparazi said there.
Have you tried the newer nVidia 3.13 driver that include a IDE driver written for the nforce?
Do you have anything else on the same IDE channel as your harddrive such as a slower CD/DVD drive, that will bring your speed down.
What IDE drivers are you...
ZoneAlarm is my 'weapon' of choice and I run XP Home SP1, not a problem, easy to set up, runs without a hitch in silent mode.
Kerio is nice but hard to set up initially I think (well harder then ZoneAlarm anyway)

Can you not also hold down the left shift key? I never knew about the Ctrl key option to disable autorun, but I always use the shift key.

I would recommend going to Black Vipers web site for a VERY comprehensive listing of what each service does and what you should or shouldnt disable.
www.blackviper.com
Look forthe XP Services in the menu on the left.
Using his recommendations I only have 3 svchost.exe instances, and I have a...
I would recommend downloading and installing Proxomitron 4.5
At its very basic level it is a ad filter and pop-up filter program all in one, but at its more advanced level it can do anything that can be done in html, ie convert all links so that if you click on the 1st half of the link it opens...
I use O&O Defragger, but disabled its auto defrag abilities when I first hit this problem (also disabled AVG for good measure), then I had a look around for cleanpnp.sys and couldn't find anything on it either.
I'll try the safe mode idea (I should have thought of that one myself, but I think...
If I try and change my pagefile in ANY way, ie set it to a custom size, turn it off totally, set it so XP manages it I get a BSOD and need to re-boot. why?
The computer itself is running fine, no wierd hiccups, a stable, clean good-condition disk (WD 80Gig 8Meg cache).
I open the control...
BlackViper (at www.blackviper.com) has a .reg file that has all the of the default service setting for both Home and Pro XP versions.
Download the file, right click and select Install (or is it Merge ? I can never remember), and all you services will be at their default settings when you next...
run memtest86 to verify your memory one stick at a time.
That will eliminate a fault with the actual sticks.
up the mem voltage by 0.1v (if your Bios supports this), it is quite possible that the higher density chips are sucking more power then the MB can cope with.
relax the mem timings a...
