We have a couple clients that over the past couple of months have come to the same problem. The norton Realtime virus scanning just stops working. It's checked off to run but doesn't. also, all the virus definition versions are no longer dates, but numbers ... currently 60112w (rather than...
In Norton Corp 7.5 there is strange user name that sometimes appears: ~E~V in ~F. Why is it saying that and what is causing it???!?
I was noticed a while ago, and norton was compleatly uninstalled (clients too), reinstalled after a reboot or two, and redeployed to clients. There were about 5...
the only thing that I know about that is the process that does the real time scanning is the one that is responsible for the sweep scan. It looks like it's chewing up a very large amount of the cpu on the client, but the priority is set to low by default, that way it shouldn't affect any client...
I'll start by saying I'm not sure this is posted to the right source, But I think it's close.
I need to install a boot loader that properly hands off control without installing linux. I know that either Lilo or Grub will do this, but I'm not sure how to go about this without installing linux...

we're running Norton Corp. 8.1 and all of our workstations run the scan after people log in. it's scheduled to run at 12am, and it will to this if the computer is logged in with the desktop locked. But we need this scan to occure as long as the computer is on, weather or not someone is...
I had a problem with notron corp 8.1 not loading the readtime. notsure if this will work for you but try using "Sevinst.exe /r /nt" at ftp://ftp.symantec.com/public/english_us_canada/symevnt/sevinst.exe. it installed required files for norton and fixed my problem.
while it's not to millitary standards, you just run fdisk and delete all the paritions. if you want to get fancy you could make a boot disk and use fdisk ( or easier, gdisk ) in the autoexec.bat

the service is running, it's queueing jobs...
