I've got a mix of Win2k and Win2k3 servers in my domain. One of my Win2k3 servers is not viewable on my network. I can ping it (both the IP and computer name) just fine though. I just can't seem to browse it. This server is also my RAS server.
Any ideas? Thanks in advance for your help.
Craig
Thanks guys,
I've been using that MS document and its great.
I was specifically curious as to whether there was an order I needed to go in regarding the primary AD controller and backup.

We're currently running a mix of WinXP workstations, Win2000 Servers, and Windows 2003 Servers. We upgraded the Windows 2003 Server machines from Win2K server w/out incident. Now, I'm planning on upgrading my primary AD controller and my backup AD controller from Win2K server to Windows 2003...
I just had a server crash that was the backup active directory controller and I had to rebuild it. I had to start from scratch but the server has the same computer name and domain account..etc
My question is how to I reconfigure this to replicate my AD controller.
Thanks,
Craig
I've got a Windows 2003 Server and I need to write to a file on a local drive. When I tried to do this from a remote computer it said access denied. Then I went to the server and right clicked on the folder. There is a greyed out check in the read only checkbox. I can removed it and save...
Thanks for the reply Seaspray. That looks like the way to go. Most of my backups are done with tape and really only consist of file backups. I've never done a full "system state" backup before. Can you piont me in a direction that might outline the backup as well as the restore operation...
I need to reformat and re-configure my RAID Array for RAID 5 on a Windows 2000 Server that's currently my Active Directory controller. I'm wondering if the Windows System State backup would benefit me when I reinstall the OS or should I just start it over from scratch?
Any ideas or tips would...
I just replaced the drive with a brand new one and I'm still getting failed inventories. I used the same stand alone enclosure and SCSI cable though. Could that be an issue?
I'm running a Dell Powervault 110T single tape SCSI drive with BE 8.5. Everything has been running smooth for months now and then all of the sudden the drive started telling me my tapes were BAD MEDIA and stopped recongnizing them. I tried 5 different tapes that were all written to by this...
Thanks for the reply Mike,
I am using the same tapes over and over but each tape only has about 10 backups total on it and I've used more than one tape with the same result. Also, the alert light stays on on the front of the unit.
I'm not sure how old the unit is but we bought it used. Its...
I am running Veritas BE Version 8.5 with a single tape Dell Powervault 110T. The unit has worked great for the past 400 hours and then all of the sudden my jobs started failing with the following error in the log:
"The request could not be performed because of an I/O device error"
I can...
Ok. I was using the wrong terminator and I've now got the tape drive talking to the server.
New problem:
When I insert a DLT IV tape into the drive, it spits it back out in about 1 or 2 minutes and gives me an unknown hard error. Its done this with 4 tapes. What to do now?
Thanks,
Craig
Thanks Tim,
I was able to round up a cable so I'm good there. I pulled a terminator off of the old P1000. I'm still having problems though. Is there a difference between a Diff/HVD and an LVD terminator?
Thanks again,
Craig
