It was much more than a simple firmware flash. Getting the drive recognized by the pc required special tools and lot of work. I found instructions on how to do it, but it was just too difficult. And there was no financial or personal data on the drive...so no worries there. Thanks again...
Wanted to let you guys know I think I found a good solution. I found several people on eBay that can fix specifically these issues with Seagate 7200.11 drives for about $60. Based on positive feedback, it seems very promising...
Thanks for all the replies. I've definitely tried other sata and power cables, and different sata port on the mobo. I don't think it needs a f/w update, but if it did, I wouldn't be able to install it since its not detected.
I guess I'll try swapping the board...does it just have to be from...
This particular hdd recently stopped working, all my others work fine.
Its a Seagate barracuda 7200.11 1TB ST31000340AS SATA.
The drive spins up fine and sounds normal, but its not detected by the computer. When I turn on the PC, the POST takes a lot longer than normal when this hdd is...
My problem is that whenever I tell my computer to hibernate, it turns off (as if it's going to hibernate), then immediately turns back on. The computer is less than a year old, and at first i had this problem, then all of a sudden hibernation worked fine for a short while, now I cannot...
I believe the only way to do this is through the software program for your video card, and it must support that option. I have Nvidia and i'm pretty sure it gives a way to specify that for particular programs, not sure about ATI though.
Has this always happened on this computer, or did it just start? Set privacy and security settings back to default, clear the cookies, reset web settings and advanced settings....if none of that helps, you can try to reinstall IE.
If for some reason you still need to find where it saved the sp2 file, i would suggest searching the hard drive for any files bigger than like 200MB, i think sp2 is around 266MB but i'm not sure.
Are you just asking how to turn off automatic updates?
I could've sworn there was an easier way, but i guess not for SP1....you can go to Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Services > turn it off from there.

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=1e1550cb-5e5d-48f5-b02b-20b602228de6&displaylang=en
On that page, it says it was released in 2002, way before SP2 for windows xp came out, and SP2 did some modifications to IE...
I see what you're talking about, there's a picture of the ports on your card here:
http://www.techreport.com/reviews/2003q3/chaintech-5600u/index.x?pg=2
It says "The card's video input and output ports are handled by a VIVO dongle" and there's a picture of that on that page too. That card...
I hope this is in the right forum. Its not exactly a problem, since everything is working, but more of a question since its not working as i expected.
I have 2 hard drives, xp pro was already installed on the primary 80GB drive. The other day i decided to install Linux on the 2nd (160GB...
