Sounds like a CPU heat problem.

If you cant uninstall this item from its related program, you might be able to dis-able this in the MSCONFIG module.

Find one of those free offer CD's(AOL,Earthlink,ATT etc.) and bypass their install go to windows explorer and find msie.exe I think, then run the setup fron that folder.That will install MSExplorer.

I used to use AOL, they became more problematic over time as well as more expensive.Also some software dont like them without some patch, thats why some say "AOL friendly"There kind of like Microsoft, insisting on doing it their way. You might try someone who'l let you do it your way.

Ive tried several. I prefer the original Alta Vista. I find them very "user friendly".

They already told you they at their discretion use pay #,s. Sounds like a marketing ploy. In todays corrupt corparate world not unusal. I'd change ISP.Somewhere in your Os or modem settings thre is a place to log your calls.

They go ofline at times to service or upgrade their software or repairs, usualy at night.

If your runnin DSL try getting a dynamic IP, it changes every time you connect. Makes it harder to get a "lock" on you.

Get a pop-up stopper. some are free like from panicware.com.

THat is the way AOL makes it all work. You have to go thru them b4 conect is made to the net.AOL costs more becouse of their "perks" which some poeple dont want nor need. Ther are direct conect ISP's. Try someone local or Earthlink or SBCpacbell (probebly yur phone co.)or others that...

Have you tried checking your security and or privacy setings, if they exist in Win 2K.The may need to be set a bit lower.

Get DSL. You don't have to share it, sharing can cause problems. A cable is shared with your neighbors, can bog down and perhaps cause some of your problems. Also yes the NIC may also help out.

That's why AOL claims to be #1 provider. They abt. charge the most. And insist on going thru their software. Use Eartlink or similar ISP. they put you direcly thru. If you use less than WIN XP try juno(same company)free service,it puts you direcly to the NET after a few adds. AOL in my oppinion...

Pay the $1o.oo, or find using a search engine to find software to do that. If they find out, in time they will they,ll knock you off the service anyway.
