Thanks Nelviticus...
However, I am careful about grounding myself. Also, most SLI graphics cards only require the additional molex PSU connection if running in serial with another SLI graphics card.
The reason there was no power, i figured after contemplating all the possibilities, was due to...
I assembled a computer with the following parts:
nVIDA 590 SLI EVGA board
SLI ready 8600 nVIDA XXX
600W Ultra X-Finity PSU
Seagate 500 GB HD [SATA]
LiteOn DVD/CD RW [SATA]
The case, advertised as ATX compatible had short O/N, HDD LED, and reset leads. I had to solder and shrink-wrap a 24...
cdogg, the STOP 0X000000FC occurs after the 1st reboot in which the blue screen setup terminates, but before the fancy XP Windows installer completes its registry set-up [to be exact, this faliure code is expressed between the Workgroup or Computer Domain option window and Welcome to Microsoft...
Thanks, cdogg. However, I am now certain that the HD is fine...since I succeeded in loading Win2k after failing to install XP w/SP2 on a new HD that I lent him; the same symptoms applied to my friend's HD as well as my new Maxtor. Each install attempt included NTSF reformatting via the XP CD.
I...
I am doing some work on a friend's computer...of course, not knowing anything about computers, he has limited knowledge of the hardware involved. From what I gather, he has a P4 3.0, Socket 775 w/1G of dual channel RAM.
Apparently, he decided to back-up his data and install a fresh copy of XP...
Update:
The CD is working. I installed XP using my main HD, the disk in question, and the remainder of a working computer...all indications are that the CD and HD are not culprits.
I placed my 1G DDR2 ram in a different slot. This had no effect. The error is still the same and occurs at...
yeah, i reset the Ram and also used memtest86+ without any failures over 6 cycles previously, because I was also thinking module failures at first. I decided, since I have an extra drive and computer, to test the XP cd [XP is freaking expensive, not like I can just run out and purchase another]...
I suggest you open up your unit.
If the MB LCD and external power light is not on, it is most likely a hardware problem. Are the PSU fans spinning? if not, check the voltage on your PSU's <Power Good> wire. This should tell you if the power output to the MB is fine...as a failure here would...
This has been the bane of my last week of vacation! My "good" box started acting odd. Within 20min of startup, I would receive a Blue Screen of Death [BSoD] with varying messages from c1a system failure to IRQ_not_less... Using Ultimate Boot CD diagnostics to test hardware, I found no problems...
Ay...I don't know if swapping out a known good PS is necessarily the best idea. If there is a problem with the CPU, and if it is drawing too much voltage, it may short out the PS.
Try testing the voltage output on each lead with either a multitester or a prefabricated tester.
ALL YOUR BASE...
Thanks BigBadBen, it seems that the culprit was a malfunctioning Asus AI NOS utility. It seems that after I reset the passwords via MB CMOS pin swapping, I discovered that my CPU was running at 3.8 [and hence shutting down].
Thanks for the tip. Your link helped a great deal in...
Oh, I feel as if I have been shot!
My "child", a gaming Box which I created as a freshman at WashU died on me 15 min. before work this morning!!!
NOoOooooOooo....

Just to refresh, I solved the initial problem by replacing the MB:
"A unit displaying similar symptoms was brought in a week ago. There seemed to be no indication of processor damage. The MB was replaced and the problem disappeared. I did the same for this unit...
and got a 0 POST boot...
I have a Dell GX280 failing to load Windows:
When it was first brought to my attention, the unit was completely unresponsive. After noting that neither the MB LCD nor the PS fan were active, I replaced the PS and found that yet another problem occurred...despite the MB LCD indication of power...
