I've run the Chkdsk and Sfc/ Scannow. The process seems to fix Windows drivers but does create new problems for other non-MS softwares installed before. In the end, I decided to reformat drive C and reinstall XP and, obviously, the tax program. This time there was no Windows Installer problem!
Thanks for your quick responses. I already used Youruninstaller to remove the old version. Revo Uninstaller could not find any traces of the old version.
I believe my Windows Installer has been corrupted, since I could install the new version on my old pc.
I think the problem is with...
I removed an old version of tax software in order to install new year's version. But, after the software unzipped and prepared to install, a Windows Installer box pops up with the message:
"The configuration data for this product is corrupt. Contact your support personnel"
Is it an error of...
I think the solution to install XP on a pre-installed Vista machine is to wipe out the disk completely. I had the same experience with a newly assembled machine with SATA drive. Once Vista is installed on the new harddrive the disk won't accept XP. In effect, I found out that the only way to...
I'e just had the same problem. In my case, the culprit was the Zone Alarm that's just been ugraded. ZA tries to take control everything. I've found out that in the Program control I had to put Winrar in trusted leel in order to unrar files! In the end, my temporary solution is to load ZA only...
I plan to replace the current master drive witch the slave drive (bigger, newer), and reinstall OS (Win XP Pro_SP2). Will there be any problems with the current name of partitions? On the current master there are 4 partitions: C,D,E,F, and on the current slave: I,J,K,L. I plan to reformat one...
Actually this problem happens only when I try to reply a Hotmail message in Opera (v 8.02, OS WinXP). The reply text box is just a rectangle, big enough for <20 characters and 2 lines with the scroll arrows on the right edge. It just happened recently, I guess I might have accidentally hit...
My PC cannot boot from WinXP. After reading the drive halfway it stops. If I leave it for a while it would come up with a blue screen and a warning that error from harddrive is detected, PC will shut down to prevent damage. And this line:
***stop: 0x0000007B (0000......)
I used NTFS DOS Pro...
Recently, I've noticed that each time I restart the PC, the 'Windows XP-SP1' system restore point, created just before the restart, disappears ! That means there never any restore points exist in the system, unless you create one. I guess, perhaps, problems started after I installed the XP...
Thanks for your quick responses! I do not want to get rid of those offenders, just to get those unchecked boxes off the startup tab. I've followed AshleyPride's method and it works great.
This is more or less a question of cosmetic in WinXP: Over time, the msconfig startup box is cluttered with many unchecked/disabled startup items. It seems that they stay in there forever. Is there anyway that we can clean up those unused boxes?
Thanks MiggyD.
I store the DOCs on a local drive. My PC is a stand alone system. I have tried to retrieve the files from the 'last files'list as well as in the 'Open' browser. The only thing I could open now is the blank document, and after saving that I cannot open it.
Thanks, DblClck.
I've checked the Tools, Options, Save: The 'Default format' is alrerady set as "Save Word files as: Word Document (*.Doc)"
When I click File Open, the 'Open' Box would show all word doc files. But if you click on a file, suppose file "abc", then the message...
I use Word 2002. Just recently when I try open a file I receive this message:
"The file xxxx is not available."
Even with a file I've just created and saved, same thing happens. If I try to close Word, another message appears:
"Changes have been made that affect the global...
I had the same problem a week ago. What I did to fix it was to use Windows Restore to go back a certain date when WinXP was shut down fine; that means it could be well beyond 'Last known good configuration' in Safe Mode. My experience in this did not tell me why that problem happened, but...
