Does ipconfig/all return a WINS server entry? Have you tried reinstalling the TCP/IP protocol? Can it ping localhost/127.0.0.1?

Or simply have the users delete the file after they send it. I'm sure they know how to delete things. :)

During installation of Win2k Pro, there is a point where it'll ask you, --- Users of This Computer Who can log on to this computer? You can require all users to enter a user name and password to log on, or you can have Windows assume the same user will always log on to this computer...

Only computer on network? If not, than does other computers get name resolution with same DNS settings? Despite having the right setting, does IPCONFIG/WINIPCFG return the right subnet? Do you get dynamic or static IP? If Dynamic try entering a static address and subnet.

Have you check your parallel cable for any bent pins? Have you reinstall drivers? From your CD or HP's site?

BTW, which IP of the server did you try to ping? Since your 1st floor computer is assigned it's IP from your provider, it also get's it's gateway from the provider. And do you have static IP or dynamic IP from your provider? If you ping the server's internal IP, of course you can't reach it...

Actually, I've seen this specific problem with a DHCP and Win98 machines. To overcome this I had to assign static IP addresses to the 98 machines. Not to fix the IP address, but the subnet mask. As someone said, provide the 98 machines with an IP Address outside the DHCP scope.

Thanks for the reply, TekTippy4U. Sorry to say, no way to check for anything now, as the machine is no in front of me anymore. The OS is Win98. I did delete the <c:\program files\Internet Explorer\> directory to reinstall IE, if that means anything. I'm hoping someone seen this kind of thing...
