Hello,
I'm setting up a server, and have chosen sendmail as my mail server. I've set this up before without any problems, but now I'm having some issues.
I can see the mail messages, but can't get the messages to show in any mail utility, or send with qpopper.
Where is the default mail dir...
I disabled all ping responses on my server and turned off sshd via webmin. I use webmin to turn the service on and off as needed... Now, is webmin secure? :~/
Hi, Just following up on what I found. Quite to my dismay, a client computer had locked a process open on the server, causing intense cpu usage. I had noticed this process taking a lot of cpu time, but figured it must be something needed to make the database work. I used the database admin...
I'll have to look in to this some more, I guess. The database is SQL based. The server is a 3.2GHz P4, 1GB Ram, RAID 0 on SATA with 2 7200RPM drives (8MB cache each), 1 Gb NIC, DLink gigabit switch. Most workstations have Dlink Gigabit cards. Laptops are only 100. The database is slow on...
Glen,
Thanks for responding. The clients are all 2k and later. The log on the server doesn't indicate a problem anywhere. Would you recommend WINS then? From my stand point that looks the easiest...

I am on a small network, 9 pcs and Server 2003. My issue is that everything on the network seems to run fine except for a database program that I run. If more than one person tries to do work in the database, the program slows to a 'steady crawl.' The database is running from a service...
Hello,
The log files on our server is full of these types of messages. What should I look for when beginning to isolate any problem, if this is a problem...
nmbd-classic[538]: find_response_record: response packet id 36169 received with no matching record.
Thanks!
It depends on the software and speed etc from point to point. We can run apps over our VPN, but they are very slow and painful to use. Server admin, remote backups and email is primarily what ours is used for.
Essentially, the daily log file, sa.year_mo_day, must be a fixed size. When I added the new processor, it was trying to log more than could fit in the file. I deleted the file, and it started working. I could also have waited until the next day, and it would have fixed itself.

Hi,
I upgraded a server running linux today by adding a second CPU. Now when CRON runs the sa1 script, I get an error that reads:
Cannot append data to file /var/log/sa/sa.2004_03_03: the number of processors has changed
I'm going to do some research to see if I can find the answer, but if...
I have been using the mySQL and PHP docs that came with the packages. Check the websites for these as I believe the same docs are available there. Both are very helpful and start from the basics and work up... they also provide examples to work from!!!
I did the following:
-dd for initial image to a 2nd drive... there was a FAQ for this, but it's gone... basically boot to a Linux boot disk then type 'dd if=/dev/hda1 of=/dev/hda2' or whatever the drives are!!!
-now I user rsync to copy changed files from /home etc.
I've tested, and I'm able...
