Is there any other software on the market like director?
If you look closer and deeper into director there is also an awful lot more possible with director too. Magenta and illumisomething are not too fantaswtic, but pretty nice indeed. If you don't ask the programs to be overcomplete You can use them pretty well.- hacky

Director and MPEG-Movies
You could user the mpegxtra. It's not free, but that's the onl one I know. Else check out the list of XTRA's at macromedia.com. I also heard that quicktime can play some mpeg files, but there were some issues with it. I suggest you try it out after installing quicktime player maybe?- hacky
