Is it ps\2 or USB? I've seen ps\2 connections go bad with mice and they do some weird things when that happens.
I don't know of a setting that would control your issue. Have you tried a different keyboard?

I had same problem when I wanted to replace the second drive with a 200GB one. 1 IDE drive and 1 SATA drive the I don't know if this helped cause the issue. Turns out that the boot info was on the second drive ntdetect...ect. ect. even though XP was on the c: drive.

I didn't set access for the cd when i created it and I can browse it everywhere I've tried it. I was only able to get the data off my cd by right clicking on the drive and selecting copy and then paste to desktop. All the files were there and installed fine.
