hi aixqueen,
i tried this one but maybe i need to start from scratch as i cannot fully setup email.
what i want is that i should be able to send and receive emails from/to another network. we do have DNS server and my machine was already configured on that server.
is there anything i missed...
bill,
it's working, yes! but i didn't confirm if the sysadmin did something to make it work. i just want clarification.
do i have to define my e-mail server in DNS server? 'just got confused.
nick,
try to check printer setting using smit, it'll tell you and show you some default config that you may want to change.
btw, is it a network printer?
try this:
1. check if the two machines (AIX/Solaris)are on the same network, say - the default gateway.
2. check/try to use "ping" command (e.g.,ping{ip address})
3. check your /etc/hosts table - define each server in each hosts file
thanks bill,
works fine now except that i'm not quite sure if i have to define all the local users (ID) in the /etc/aliases file.
sorry, i got the materials from IBM (attached below) site but not descriptive enough to apply in my system...
any suggestions here? takers?

i want to setup/configure my rs6000 (AIX) box to send and receive e-mails from a dns server.

thanks call,
but i don't want to create a new VG. all i want to do to give room for growing DBase is to copy the entire hdisk1, which is datavg to a new HD with 9.1GB and remove the original HD for datavg, leaving the new 9.1GB HD (as the new datavg).
i think, critos' is right except that...
hi christos,
thanks for the tip, but:
initially the system recognizes the hdisk which is hdisk2, but when i'm about to add it to datavg, i encountered a problem:
PP size of 4 requires the creation of 2169 partition for hdisk2. limitation is 1016 PP/disk. specify a longer PP size in order to...
