Have tried that Linney and yes, the profile repair process did get rid of that problem, but created a bunch of others that will take some time to repair.
Does this give you any clues as to which bits of the profile were corrupted, and whether I can just manually alter those on the original...
Thanks Linney. From Safe Mode and a different user the Save As function works fine. From my usual log in, no luck. The problem persists.
(BTW I tried Safe Mode first then went back to normal mode and for a short while (2 or three tires in different programs) it also worked fine, then started...
There were a number of boot-reboot procedures on all machines (including the router). Immediately prior to the network working there were no changes on anything!
When I use the "Save As" option in any program the options drop down displays for a second or two then collapses. I can only save in the default format.
I did do a registry clean up (without backing it up first - I know, really stupid) so it is probably a registry issue. I have tried a System...
An update: I have not been able to solve any of the problems mentioned, especially turning on network discovery. BUT tried to connect across the network today and Voila! Network drive is now mapped. Wish I knew what happened so I know what to do in the future!!
Thanks Linney - I have been through most of those links previously, Not much success though. I will unistall Trend Micro on one machine (have no confidence uninstalling Norton - have heard to many horror stories). If I can make one computer 'accessible' work it might give me a clue on how to fix...
Sorry about the long story but I need to give the full picture!
I run a small home office with 3 computers all on the same workgroup, all able to browse each others shared folders and mapped network drives: All 3 were running XP (2 Professional, 1 home. I then changed one of the XP Professionals...
Thanks Linney, I will try the IPv6 next time I have the problem. I am reasonably certain it is not a cable/hardawre issue as I have no problem accessing the network drive over windows, it is juts through DOS
Thanks for your post. No, J: is not mentioned in the registry entry. Infuriatingly I cannot test anything else at the moment because today I do not get the error message. Nothing in the system set-up was changed overnight. Go figure!
Maybe the intermittent nature of the issue is a clue?
Hi, this is strange. I run SOHO network of three computers through a wireless router. 2 computers run Windows XP, the other Vista. We share data on by mapping the hard drive on one of the XP computers. Most time this works perfectly but recently I have had a problem accessing it through the...
This is probably not the right place for this question - but I couldn't find an exact match so here goes:
I am using Trend Micro Internet Security 2009. I have one drive on my computer which is shared. Computers that are shown as blocked on Trend Micro still have access to the shared drive. TM...
Thanks Mark. I plan to reinstall the updates one by one to see which created (or catalysed) the problem. It may be my PC as for some reason it is incompatible with XP SP2, according to the manufacturer it is a motherboard issue.
What might help is if anyone knows what kind of feature would...
A follow up to Thread 779-678849
I have a SOHO network of 3 XP computers all running dBase V (DOS) netowrked through a router with a print server atatched. We have one printer attached to the router through parallel port and one is a network pritner attached by ethernet cable.
