Adding 1400x1050 option to Remote Desktop

I'm use Remote Desktop to connect and do maintenance on another system on the other side of the house (yes, I'm too freekin' lazy to walk over there!). The system I'm running RDC from has a UXGA (1600x1200) display. It has an SXVGA+ (1400x1050) dislpay, and I don't have that setting on the...

    sshd won't start

Stefan: Everything is set up as described Mike: That was my first though as well, but nothing else is broken on this server (telent, ftp, DNS, etc.). I even tried staring up in IPv4 only and got the same result. Any other ideas? There is little to go on Google-wise - Funky D

    sshd won't start

0513-086 The sshd Group is not on file. "startsrc -s sshd" works fine, it's just that the sshd dæmon dies after starting up with the "Invalid argument" shown above. Any ideas? - Funky D

tru64: Errors writing large files via NFS

Got me there. I would strongly suspect a network issue, but you say that rcp is working. Next step would be monitoring the RPC port (135) for traffic.

Changing the sender field in sendmail

Maybe I have the format of /etc genericstable wrong... It's current contents are realuser@realhost : user-name-I-want-it-to-be@domain-I-want-it-to-be.com There isn't much to Google on for AIX here. Do I have the format right? - Funky D

tru64: Errors writing large files via NFS

5 MB is not a large file. Large files nowadays are on the order of GB. Since you indicate it is not a consistent file size that causes errors. It's not an NFS limit (which would be 2 or 4 GB anyway). What error message are you getting during the copy? - Funky D

Changing the sender field in sendmail

I need to format outgoing e-mail messages (AIX 4.3.3, but also needs to be applicable to 5.x) so that they originate from an address that can be replied to (incoming sendmail is disabled). I set up an /etc/genericstable with the correct address, did a "makemap dbm /etc/genericstable <...

    Getting the underlying user

Try using sudo. It can create a "sudolog" of who invoked sudo to run a command and when. - Funky D

    SSH-Secure Shell help?

Secure shell should invoke editors just like any other shell. Any editor on your system should be usable within SSh, if not, then there's a problem. - Funky D

    upgrade from 5.1 to 5.1B

The easiest thing to do (assuming the disks are NOT managed by LSM) is to boot single-user, run "mount -u /" and "bcheckrc", put the 5.1B CD in the drive, then run "installupdate". As always, make sure you take a backup (or 2) first! - Funky D

    advfs directory corruption

"verify" is the correct utility to run with AdvFS. If you are looking to delete the file that lacks the directory entry, you can use "verify -d [domain]". If it is the root_domain, you must also specify "-r". HTH - Funky D
