there is no group policy of any kind. Also, i've set sessions in both active directory and terminal server configuration to never end active/idle session. This is occurring in two different networks
(one at a datacenter)...so i don't believe it's a connectivity issue.
There is no power option on the W2k server. Also for some reason, setting the session to never disconnect did not fix the issue...maybe its designed this way.

Instead of trying to change the domain name using the change button in system properties, try using the network id wizard button. Sometimes that works. If it still doesnt, change the computer name, then reboot and you should be able to change the domain name.

you're right. i am connecting from outside via vpn. When i cant connect to the remote lan, i'm still able to ping the public address but not the internal address.
Even though i can ping the public address, the people at the lan are also not able to get to the internet during this time.
