    Wrong Version of Adobe Loads

I have Acrobat 5 (full version) on my system -- but I haven't installed the Acrobat 5 Reader. I have the Acrobat 6 Reader installed. When I click on files having a PDF extension OUTSIDE of my IE browser, Acrobat 6 is loaded (and that's what the Windows File Extensions say is associated with...

MBR Update Problem ( ASUS A7V8X-X Motherboard)

I have a new motherboard (ASUS A7V8X-X) and since I installed it I can't update the MBR on my hard drive. Both LILO and DOS's FDISK both think they're writing to the MBR (ie they don't produce any errors) but the MBR is unchanged. I tried a different hard drive with the same results, so it's...

ATI Video Drivers not in Registry

I've got a problem with the ATI WDM capture drivers too. My OS is Win2k (SP4). All the various components seem to show up in Device Manager, but when I run ATI's test program, when it hits the Capture Drivers I get a red "X" showing. It says the Capture Driver INF files are not...

    I Lost My "Ding"! <g>

Sound works fine except for this one "minor" anomaly. I even reset the sound settings to the Windows Default and still no "ding". It's not critical, just a puzzler! Thanks for the suggestions, John. Maybe some obscure registry setting is causing this... Right now only...

    I Lost My "Ding"! <g>

I used to be able to hear a "ding" when I would click the horizontal bar on the audio slider. Now, nothing. Likely it has something to do with the sound files -- any suggestions?

    Partition Magic 8.01 Problem

I've been trying to reorganize my hard disk (master) with PM. I make the changes using the GUI interface, the program reboots my computer, xmnt2002.exe "starts" to execute (get about 5 periods) and then "zip". I have to cold boot, and then press a key to abort the above...

LG 4040 DVD IDE Channel Settings?

I just installed an LG 4040 DVD burner. My system chose PIO 4 and DMA 2 as its settings. I discovered that the same settings were used for my additional two CD burners. Should I change the IDE channel settings in Device Manager to use DMA mode instead of PIO mode for all my burners? They...

    SPOLER.EXE (W32.Randex.J Worm)

I got hit with SPOLER.EXE in the past day or so. NAV's current definitions don't seem to "find it" but it appears that the definitions to be released on September 8th will... It appears that this is the W32.Randex.J worm. I just deleted two lines in the registry (as per instructions...

    SVCHOST Keeps Closing Down

All of a sudden, SVCHOST (one instance) closes down on me with an error log created somewhere. This action prevents "cut and paste" operations and the control panel no longer displays its operations correctly. Any suggestions on how I can "fix" this???

No "Ding" Sound When Testing Volume Level

All my "event files" work fine, but I can't get the "ding" sound to play when I click on the volume slider. I have reset all the events back to their "defaults", but still no "ding". I had this problem once before and fixed it, but now I have forgotten...

    W32.Jeefo Virus

This JEEFO virus is quite peculiar. I did not have any major problems with my system until I upgraded to the latest NAV definitions (which were up to date previously). Nothing showed up UNTIL I installed the latest definitions. Supposedly this virus appeared on the first week of June. Yet my...

    W32.Jeefo Virus

Somehow I managed to get this virus on my PC. SARC documentation tells me to edit the registry and to remove a value: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run in the right pane to delete the value: "PowerManager"="%windir%\svchost.exe" I don't...

Thanks so much. I have an external modem and I do believe that "powering on" before booting my PC will do the trick!

    Modem Disappears from Device Manager

I have a USR 56K Voice Pro PNP external modem. It keeps "disappearing" from Device Manager on bootup. I continually have to go to the Device Manager and do a "Scan for Hardware Changes" and then it "reappears". I have an ASUS P4PE mobo. Any help with this...
