Sorry for the silly question but it wouldn't be so silly if i go and unplug the system if it all goes pear shaped! I've got to move a Norstar BCM400 & Norstar business manager 1000E a couple of feet. The leads are all long enough but the system is plugged into a BT UPS. Before i pull the plug is...
I've got to install some 20 pair cable down some duct work, about 150M,the cable will never see daylight(100% enclosed) I'm not sure if you guy's use the same telco standards as us in the UK(most people on here seem USA based!!) but UK spec. is CW1128 for external use, this is a moisture resistant...

These were the converters i was looking at,my supplier lists them as being compatible with 10/100 but the online spec. just say's 1000BaseT?? Is anything that is 1000BaseT compatible backwards compatible with 100BaseT??
Hi,thanks for the reply, you have backed up what i thought! My only query was with the Fibre and connectors,I'm assuming that SC connectors are compatible with gigabit?(that there is no specific connector for gigabit?) The preferede fibre over here seems to have switched to 62.5 nanometer,i...
We are just about to install a new fibre optic link to out new building,we plan to convert the main building over to gigabit for the servers, using copper cable,i see places selling gigabit media converters, called 1000 Base SL to 10/100/1000TX. Will these converters allow us to connect the fibre...
final question,62.5/125 or 50/125?! I undersatnd 50/125 gives better bandwidth but always thought 62.5/125 was the newer fibre??Any implications/advantages on using either?(like are most switches compatible with one or both?) Thanks again.....
Thanks for that,i guess if we want to future proof it we should install a 1 Gigabit link AND Gigabit link from the servers to a Gigabit switch? I think the main issue was would the remote building see a speed difference using the fibre link which you have answered-thanks very much!!
Thanks for the info, multiple machines at one site will communicate with the server at the other site, does this require gigabit or would 100BASEFX be OK?? What i require is the machines at one site to see no differnce in speed when accessing the server(via fibre) when compared to the machines...
