Did the problem started after you installed the 6a service pack. We have had a lot of problems with it. If you did save your last service pack try uninstalling 6a and see what happens. If you can see no change then you can reinstall it again

You still have the data to make a ERD disk in the repair directory. First go to another NT Server, make a bootable floppy by copying NTLDR.com, BOOT.ini and NTDETECT.com. Boot the Server, then copy the content of the repair directory to a floppy. This will be your ERD disk.

I would say a full backup on friday, and incremental on the other days. Just to be extra cautions, if your data is priceless, periodically restore the data to verify that you have a sound backup, also have more than one full backup on a friday and store a copy off site.
