It is intended to be a movie with several, simultaneous skewing mcs so I don't think intervals will help much. Know anything about the transformation matrix? I think this should be able to do what I need but it's pretty confusing.. lol.. what isn't.

When you create your text layer, are you dragging out a text area? This should force text to wrap between the confines of the set area.

Just select the gradient tool, create a new gradient and then double click your selected gradient in the options panel. A dialogue box will appear allowing you to add several colour across the gradient. Just click anywhere above the bar to add an opacity stop and below to add a new colour stop.
