Hi everybody,
A friend of mine has a 1800xp/512ram/Gforce4/ WinXPpro.
He has 2 Drives installed; The master is 20g 5200rpm, Formatted Fat32,needless to say he is running out of space, and wants to make simple use of the second H'Drive; It is also a 20g 5200rpm,formatted Fat32, without a jot of...
Hi Badboy,
Did these new crashes happen straight after disabling the non essential services? if so re-check dependencies and turn back on any suspect services.I say this because you reported some stability after dissing some of them, so try to rewind to that point, then dis services one at a...
Hi nosremark,
Try this ..if you haven't already- go to your desktop folder using explorer and try using the shortcuts in there... any joy? if so your problem is very complicated and will require much thought by all users! If they don't work from there delete them and make new ones back in your...
Hi Badboy,
xomcat is right about a good clean-up and defrag. Sorry to confuse you DLTC is distributed link tracking client and WMI is windows managemant instrumentation... I will stop there.. I think what you need to do after you have done a good clean up is visit www.blackviper.com download...
Hi Bad boy,
Your sandra report is not too bad, you should as sdvised by xomcat disable one of the sound devices, you should attempt to activate s.m.a.r.t. in your bios if available, turn off the listed services except for DLTC and WMI, most of the other warnings are not crucial except one...
Hi Badboy,
Good advise from these guys. Also get a sisoft sandra prog and run its 'performance tune-up wizard' this may spot the prob for you very quickly!
Good luck D
Hi Nosremark,
That is very strange!..
One idea though, you should check out your 'send to' folder, there could be a problem there to do with the content of the folder, too many sources to list!?
Check that all the needed services are active, as this prob could be to do with the 'explorer...

Hi clownshoes,
DavidDCSA is dead right on this, try www.majorgeeks.com I think they have a free prog called 'tweek TCP' or something like that, it has a changeable MTU setting as well as a pinger prog to detect your maximum MTU so that you can set it to it's optimum!
Good luck.

Hi shadow'
I think the best course of action is to go to the Sygate web-site, here you should find a f.a.q. or forum that might point to any problems running your firewall with aol8.
If Sygate is on top of any problems it should post a patch to download and update your f'wall software. i...
Cheers Banzai,
I have done that, on several occasions before. I simply found on the last install i could not stop the crashing problem (stated above) from re-occuring. The only solution that worked was the patch from PCcillin. It seems that aol8 is a bit tetchy with firewalls. I have not had...
Hi jnelson74.
I may have the answer for you, I am using pcCillin firewall and when xp crashed I got the blue screen pointing me to 'atwpkt2.sys' and 'pcc_pfw'
I struggled to see what the cause was until I read about AOL/using firewalls. It has advice about config of most popular firewalls...
