Yes, I have had a problem like this. It was so bad that I never did a find or I knew if I accidentally hit command-F I'd have to restart. And, darn, I can't exactly remember how to solve it. I think it might have been either trashing Quark's preferences or going to System 9.1. Skagit Valley...
Or you could by a program to do the imposition, I could name a couple, but I don't want to endorse them. They can run several thousand dollars up. They will do all the placement and marks and creep, etc. automatically.

You can also "find" the value of the magenta or cyan in "curves" by moving the cursor over the moire spot and seeing the "circle" wiggle. Then "flatten"the curve in that spot (reducing contrast) and it should take out the baddies. Skagit Valley Publishing...
Did you know you can increase the "memory allocation" of the print monitor program? That might help.
