hard drive wont spin up unless disconnected from MB
I read this thread with interest because I was having much the same problems - drives only working when ribbon cables were disconnected, etc. I tried all advice offered but no luck then I decided to replace the CMOS battery on the motherboard as a last hope and it cured all the problems.- Davethedunce

Have you tried replacing the CMOS battery? I had problems with a hard drive not spinning when the ribbon cable was connected, sometimes I got a message saying 'hard drive not detected' other times the screen stayed blank. I tried reseating memory, taking components off inturn, etc. but with no...- Davethedunce
