    TSM Manager Software

Came across this neat piece of software from a company in Demark, basically in sits ontop of your TSM Server(s)and allows you to run and control your TSM from one 'console'. This is a well thought own product by people who understand the operational requirements of managing TSM. The range of...

TSM 5.1on W2K server, all clients miss schedules

Agree with gwichman, we had similar problems with W2K and NT, was down to scheduler not running, check dsmsched.log also watch out for mis-match on release levels, ensure your client is at the latest level (5.1.5.6) have seen problems with older levels especially 4.2.

    Image backups on Win2000

Logged a problem with IBM, they advised stopping any anti-virus software, which I did with no effect. Is there anyway of identifying under W2K which process has a lock on a file/disk?

    IBM EXP300 defunct disks

Recently installed IBM x330 with an EXP300 external disk unit, this contains 14 73gb drives. Problem I have is that i keep getting 'defunct' disks, first failure there were seven drives defunct, they were brought back online ok but it took the raidmanager approx 24 hours to re-sync. This week...

    Image backups on Win2000

Anybody any experience of using image backups on Win2000? Doing some testing and keep coming up with ANS1287E 'volume cannot be locked errors' even though I have logged on as administrator and ensured nothing is running. The only limited success is with image snapshot, I manged to do a backup...

    use of 'move nodedata' command

Currently run TSM 5.1 on AIX 4.3.3 with a 3584 LTO library. Have been testing the 'move nodedata' command in an attempt to consoladate my tapes to speed up recovery process. We already use collocation on certain pools but have found that when reclamation runs under certain conditions data can...

TSM 5.1 error ANR1144W storage media inaccessible

Have the problem sorted !! Checked out the Tivoli support site and found a few hits on the problem, even if there were MVS (OS/390) related. Problem stated that TSM 4.1 and upwards are affected. Seems that when a tape is in use TSM maintains an 'in use' list internally, however sometimes it...

TSM 5.1 error ANR1144W storage media inaccessible

Just upgraded out TSM server to TSM 5.1 platform is AIX 4.3.3. Now getting problems with restores and reclamation, error 'ANR1144W storage media inaccessible'. Which tape device is best?

LTO is a standard set by HP, IBM and Seagate so you can buy whichever size of device best suits you, think Seagate do more of the low end libraries i.e 1 or 2 drives, 10 tape slots. These would/should work with all major backup/restore products including veritas, in theory it should just be a...

    Which tape device is best?

Question, have you ever used your backup tapes for recovery? We use dds-3 and dds-4 and they do seem error prone. Believe dds is more or less at the end of its life, unless someone know different? Where to next, 8mm based systems, DLT (which is also fast approaching end of life) and then there...

    ESS vs EMC

Thanks for your replies. As we are now getting to the point of making a descion i can say that i would never buy an EMC device, even though the ESS and EMC are fairly evenly matched the ESS TCO is far less than the EMC and there are no HIDDEN charges, what you see is waht you get. With the EMC...

    ESS vs EMC

BJVERSAL, thanks for the info, do you feel the ESS is easier to 'live' with regarding day to day operations? Have seen that EMC's pricing is a bit steep, do you have any Total Cost Ownership figures for both devices, say over three years?

    ESS vs EMC

We are looking to purchase one of these devices and would welcome any views/comments on IBM's ESS and EMC Symetrix central storage devices.

TSM and IBM 3584 LTO Library

Anybody any experience of using TSM 4.2.1 with a 3584? We use a RS/6000 F80 as the server and our 3584 has 6 drives, the problem appears to be that LTO is too good! The reason is that i am seeing anything between 200gb and 500gb per tape with compression which is good till you come to do...
