We use Kermit 95 from Columbia University, very cheap when you buy a bulk 100 user license, retails for around 70 in the box.

The linksys will work, I have installed at least 6 in different servers, we also use a large number of intel pro100 server nics, drivers are right on the CD in the box and they do not cost much more than linksys
I recommend Lone-Tar, I have met the owners and programmers of lone-tar. I support 185 servers, it it has saved me countless hours on more than on occation due to hardware failure.

add users to vision user database set password to encrypted, windows passwords.

Check out a company call TwinCom out of Europe, and I think Avnet/Savior also has a program for mirroring servers, I saw it last year at SCO Forum, it is called SavWareHA
I had a 300 MHz single platter server, replaced it with a 1.0 GHz RAID 5 HP LC2000 with 128MB NetRaid
