7760 (current) will handle up to 255 gsm. With no finisher, the paper exits on top of the machine. The Phaser 7400 is being replaced by the 7500 (improvement over the 7400 with a propietary led head). 7760 is laser. 7300,7400, 7500 are led technology.
Where the maintenance roller slides in. Take it out and look at the mounting plate. Is it white? If so, probably cracked and the cam that moves it is cracked as well. Also, since it has some age on it, take out the ink loader and look down on the left side to see if any ink is piled up around...
The drum heater is out. A search on google will find somwe enter prising individuals that sell a kit to repair. Or, you can go to Lowes and get two 150 watt halogen bulbs and replace them yourself for 15 bucks.
Also, if the colors seem to be mixing, then the printhead is leaking internally. The laminated plates forming the ink passages allow ink to cross migrate. Then on solid fills, it can't keep the flow even.
Take the side cover off and see if the drum cooling fan is running when it says "warming". That is a catch all for various activities like melting ink or trying to control the drum temp.
With the cover off, does the pick clutch rotate and move the paper? Does the black plastic guide that the paper enters have 2 paths? They are prone to breaking after several years exposure to the heat inside the unit. There should also be a pass flag on the right side of that guide. If so, then...
Check the error history under troubleshooting menu or service tools. Look for the above mentioned error (drum clutch bad) or 11,00X --power supply error. Other ones like 13,00X--bad error --printhead.
